Augmented Reality in The Industrial Sector and Its Real Scope

For some years now, the industrial sector has started to use augmented reality and for different reasons. Among these, assistance and training stand out. An example of the augmented reality industry is that relating to the automotive sector, where some brands use this technology both for remote assistance and for presentation activities in the showrooms of the new models.

In mechanical workshops, the control of the parts of the engine or electrical system for all monitoring and maintenance activities can be solved thanks to the Augmented Reality which offers detailed information in overlay with respect to each single part on which checks or interventions must be carried out. This information can be fixed and appear as pop up signs next to the components that need further explanation, or as a video tutorial that, through an overlay video, shows a technician who correctly performs the intervention procedures

The same applies to maintenance activities on systems such as boilers, hydraulic systems, electrical or gas systems and so on. In support of workforce automation, a tablet or Smartphone helps technicians in their work, explaining the correct procedures to new staff or helping the operator as a virtual help desk in case of very particular anomalies and outside of routine work

The application of augmented reality can also concern culture. Think about the museums and the use by public administrations that use this technology to communicate with citizens and transmit important information to them. As an effective and technological virtual reality tool, with AR in fact, it is possible to combine engagement and fun through new emotional paths. In a museum, the visitor’s journey, through the use of a Smartphone or tablet or, simply, through a digital signage solution, becomes an immersive experience that transforms static displays into imaginative panoramas. The user is introduced to a context scenario where, for example, animals materialize in 3D with all their vitality, interacting through thematic gags.

Augmented reality changes the approach to everyday life. In fact, AR technologies help to meet interesting development with high added value. This is because the quality and quantity of data designed to support the interaction enrich the wealth of experience thus creating an ideal context: when it is needed and for whom it really is needed. In this sense, the fundamental question becomes the development of an integrated communication project which, by exploiting augmented reality, enhances communication. It goes without saying that the interaction phases can be simplified and therefore more complete and engaging, raising the level of attention. Today technologies are highly evolved. There are even solutions that lead to a real evolution, through drug and drop functionality, of implementing information contributions with respect to the object that you want to tell in AR. So augmented reality becomes truly within reach, but also within the company…
